What is the purpose of the Scholarship Committee?

The Scholarship Committee exists to ensure scholarships are reviewed and awarded fairly, objectively, and in alignment with the mission of Blazor Apparel Projects (BAP). The committee helps uphold integrity, confidentiality, and transparency throughout the selection process.

Who oversees the Scholarship Committee?

The Committee operates under the oversight of the BAP Board of Directors.
The Board is responsible for approving the formation of the committee and appointing the Committee Chair. The Committee then carries out the review process in accordance with BAP’s bylaws and IRS scholarship guidelines.

Do I need to reside in the United States to serve on the Scholarship Committee?


Yes. At this time, Scholarship Committee members must reside in the United States in order to serve. This helps ensure alignment with our operational structure, meeting schedules, and compliance requirements.

What are the responsibilities of a committee member?

Committee members are responsible for:

  • Reviewing scholarship applications independently
  • Scoring applicants based on objective criteria
  • Maintaining confidentiality of all applicant information
  • Participating in selection discussions
  • Disclosing any potential conflicts of interest

Is there a time commitment?

Yes. Members should expect to dedicate time during active scholarship cycles to review applications and attend at least one selection meeting. Estimated commitment during a cycle is approximately 3–5 hours total.

How are scholarship recipients selected?

Recipients are selected using a structured scoring rubric based on predetermined criteria approved by the Board of Directors. The process is nondiscriminatory and designed to prevent private benefit or inurement, in compliance with IRS guidelines for charitable grant-making.

How long does a committee member serve?

Committee service is typically aligned with the scholarship cycle. Members may be invited to continue serving in future cycles based on performance, availability, and Board approval.

Is prior clinical or nonprofit experience required?

No. While experience in education, community service, leadership, or nonprofit work is beneficial, it is not required. BAP values diverse perspectives to ensure a well-rounded and equitable review process.

Will committee members receive compensation?

No. Scholarship Committee members serve in a volunteer capacity.

What is the long-term goal of the Scholarship Committee?

The long-term goal is to establish and maintain a designated scholarship fund that allows Blazor Apparel Projects to award scholarships on a yearly basis, as funding permits. The Committee plays a critical role in ensuring sustainability, accountability, and fairness in this process.

What happens after I submit my application?

After submission:
